Trip Itinerary

Day 1-3 Arrival Nairobi- Fly Maasai Mara

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya’s capital city of Nairobi, you will be met by an Image Travel representative. Depending on the Kenya airport authority personnel, they will either be waiting for you (holding a sign with your name on it) as you enter the airport building after getting off your flight or just after immigrations. The representative will then assist you through customs and with your luggage before escorting you to the pickup area where a member of our team will be waiting to drive you to Wilson Airport for your onward flight to &Beyond Kichwa Tembo Airstrip to begin your Masai Mara adventure. The Masai Mara National Reserve is an unforgettable game reserve due to its abundance of wildlife and spectacular landscapes. With gently rolling hills and wide-open plains, it is the quintessential African safari experience.

Day 4-6 Fly Loisaba - &Beyond Suyian Lodge

After breakfast at the lodge, your guide will drive you to the &Beyond Kichwa Tembo Airstrip for your flight onward to Loisaba Airstrip. Celebrate northern Kenya’s Laikipia region at &Beyond Suyian Lodge during your 3-night stay. Nestled along the escarpment and sheltered behind a natural kopje run, offering panoramic views from every corner of the spacious room. An al fresco deck and private rim-flow plunge pool with a sunken daybed and outdoor shower complete the space. Your stay includes three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirit and beers, teas and coffees, refreshments on game drives, safari activities, laundry, emergency medical evacuation cover and transfers to and from the lodge airstrip. Day 7 Depart Loisaba, Fly Nairobi

Enjoy your last early morning game drive and breakfast at the lodge before waving a fond farewell to Kenya as you make your way back to Loisaba Airstrip. From here, you will board your scheduled flight to Wilson Airport in Nairobi. Kenya’s capital city of Nairobi is one of the largest and most influential cities in Africa and is recognized as a commercial and financial regional hub. Here you will be picked up by a member of our team who will transfer you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward flight.

January

The herds are moving into the southern plains of the Serengeti, around Ndutu, Kusini, and Naabi. The short grasses here are rich in nutrients, preparing the females for calving.

February

This is the peak calving month. Hundreds of thousands of wildebeest calves are born, often within a few weeks of each other. This spectacle attracts a high concentration of predators, making it an excellent time for predator-prey sightings.

March

The calves are a few weeks old and growing quickly. The herds begin to spread out as they continue to graze on the southern plains, preparing for the long journey north.

April

The long rains begin, prompting the herds to start their movement northwest. They form long columns as they begin their trek through the central Serengeti.

May

The migration gathers momentum, with vast columns of wildebeest stretching for miles. The herds congregate in the Western Corridor, and the mating season, or "the rut," begins.

June

The dry season starts, and the wildebeest face their first major challenge: the Grumeti River. Thousands of animals must cross this crocodile-infested river, creating dramatic and intense encounters.

July

The herds continue their journey north, with many arriving in the northern Serengeti. The Grumeti River crossings are in full swing, and some of the first herds may begin to cross the even more treacherous Mara River.

August

This is one of the best months to witness the famous Mara River crossings. The herds are spread out across the northern Serengeti and the Maasai Mara, making multiple crossings back and forth over the river in search of greener pastures.

September

The river crossings continue, though the intensity may decrease. Large numbers of wildebeest are now grazing in the fertile plains of the Maasai Mara in Kenya.

October

As the dry season approaches its climax, the wildebeest start to slowly move back into the Serengeti from the Maasai Mara, heading east and south.

November

The short rains begin, signaling the herds to make a decisive move south towards the replenished plains of the eastern Serengeti. They make their way through the Lobo and Loliondo areas.

December

The wildebeest arrive back on the short-grass plains of the southern Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. They are widely dispersed, feeding on the fresh grass and getting ready for the next calving season.
